LIMA 2011 Puchase of New Aircraft?

RSAF Boeing AH-64 Apache from Singapore Armed Forces ( SAF )

Promoting LIMA 2011. This will be among the best picture i've ever seen. Picture was taken in 2009 LIMA. Thanks to Arifuddin Radmad for sharing this wonderful picture.

Well, i've always in opinion Malaysia needs this kind of Helicopter rather than too relaying on aircraft such as Sukhoi or MIG's. Why? We are a very small country & our terrain are hilly mountain with thick forest. Having this kind of helicopter will give a durability to maneuver through the terrain un spotted. After all this helicopter can have a long rage missile which can cater long distance enemy. :).. Just my thoughts.

To RMAF. If you decide to buy one.. Give me a free ride will yea.. :)

Brace for wet Weather - Langkawi Weather Forecast

Malaysia Meteorological Department stated that Northern states of Malaysia will be having a wet weather & possibility of flood on certain areas.

Not sure on how will it be effected Langkawi however, i suggest all tourist & visitors need be aware. The weather in Malaysia is unpredictable. At one part it might be wet & after 5-10 minute drive the weather suddenly different.

For those who wish to rent a car, please check that it is in good condition (tyre condition etc2). For those who rent a bike, make sure you stop during heavy rain. Langkawi have a lot of trees on the road side. There are possibility of falling trees hazard.

There's expected to be an increased of wave height & wind speed. Wave expected to be from 1.0m to 1.5m. If you wish to go for island hopping tour make sure all the safety life jacket provided. Don't be hesitate to go back if you see the weather condition beginning to change from good to bad. Most of the island hopping operator aware about this & if the operator decide to stop the tour, don't object because they know the weather well.

Anyway, for those who's been planning to come & already in Langkawi during wet season. Make an alternative plan to round the island by going to dry places such as Underwater World, Craft Center, Buffalo Park, Crocodile Farm etc2.

Avoid slippery waterfall & if you still wish to go there, be cautious. DONT let yourself be in one of the statistic of falling from the waterfall especially in Telaga Tujuh (Seven Well). Have fun & be cautious during this wet season.

From time to time I suggest you closely monitor the weather condition here & plan your activity accordingly.

Andaman Sea from Mat Chinchang

A view of Andaman Sea from Mat Chinchang
Picture of the day. I'm always trilled to sea such picture especially taken from the cable car or the crocked bridge. Such a beauty. Landscape mode + great combination of green & blue..

Thanks to Sam for sharing. You can see more pictures of his trip here. When ask about his trip to Langkawi. This is his answer..

In all honesty, my trip to langkawi was amazing. I stayed in a resort that was in the rainforest but also along the Andaman Sea. It was incredibly beautiful. We saw flying lemurs above us while we were eating dinner in our hotel. it was absolutely incredible. went on a tour of the mangroves, and did a walk in the rainforest with a medicine man. i really enjoyed all of it. we also did a bike ride down a mountain at sunrise and then ate at a local place for breakfast. The only disappointing part about the trip was 7 wells. Literally trash everywhere. Otherwise the trip was incredible. Thanks for asking, let me know if you have any other questions or want to know more details.
best,
sam

Fund allocated to cater Jellyfish Reseach & Problem

I would like to suggest one thing with regards to the fund will be given to Langkawi (RM420Million). I know LADA will set up a ranger division to cater the environment. I do hope apart from that a special interest & task force to be made to monitor presence of Box Jellyfish & jellyfish in Langkawi.

We cannot deny their presence & its effects to people. We dont have the expertise nor the facility to combat this. We only use typical vinegar & drugs to combat its effect. WE need to really look into this. I hope the authority will look into this, setup a team or import expert to look upon this problem.

One task force on how to control.
One task force 'medic' & facility to cater the effected people if they get stung.

Stander and Schneitter live up to top rankings in Stage 1 of LIMBC

LANGKAWI: South African Burry Stander and Swiss Nathalie Schneitter lived up to their top rankings as they won the men’s and women’s Stage 1 cross country marathon respectively on the first day of the Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge (LIMBC) yesterday.
Swiss Nathalie Schneitter won the women’s event.
Stander outsprinted Germany’s Karl Platt of Team Bulls in a dramatic tussle between the top two riders in the peloton, clocking 2:24.20.5 at the Langkawi Stadium.
Platt was just a fraction slower at 2:24.20.8 while his French team-mate and former European champion Thomas Dietsch was third in 2:26.12.2.
“The first hour of the race was quite a struggle for me as I was still feeling jet-lagged and I was also trying to cope with the weather,” said world No. 6 Stander, who bagged the African championship and South African national championship earlier this year.
“But it was an interesting race on an interesting course.
To be able to win Stage 1 was a wonderful feeling indeed.”
Malaysia’s top finisher was former road cyclist Fauzan Lutfi, who clocked 2:50.03.2 to finish 25th.
South Africa’s Burry Stander celebrating after winning Stage 1 of the Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge Tuesday.
It was a good day at the office for Team Colnago Fabre Sudtirol as world No. 8 cross country cyclist Schneitter led the team to a one-two finish ahead of team-mate Vivienne Meyer in the women’s event.
“It’s always great to win ... and getting a 1-2 finish was really a dream start,” said Schneitter.
The LIMBC features five stages. Stage 2 will be a cross country Olympic standard race which starts and finishes at Kampung Tok Senik Resort.

Langkawi Live: A new music festival with more than a hint of green

The Malaysian government's announcement last week of a 420 million ringgit plan to boost tourism in Langkawi sent a huge shiver down my spine. The last thing this beautiful island needs is more visitors; most of its best beaches are already either over-developed, or the private property of exclusive resorts.

What Langkawi (and indeed Malaysia as a whole) needs is not more tourism, but better tourism. Most crucially it needs to reduce the environmental impact of existing visitors before trying to attract new ones. The government may be making the right noises about using its five-year Langkawi plan to encourage ecotourism, but past behaviour would suggest this should be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

More here..

AL :-
I more or less agree with the writer. However, just give a chance to the government effort towards eco-tourism. What we need to do is to voice out our opinion on how to make Langkawi more sustainable despite the thousands of tourist flocking in. Make thailand & bali as example..

Let make it right make it green..

Malaysia: In Rick Stein's foodie footsteps

Rick Stein loves Malaysian food for the collision of tastes that come from the Chinese, India and Malay influences.

Rick Stein is a traveller. Through his innumerable TV shows I know he gets to eat in fascinating destinations. So when I heard his favourite place to stay was Bon Ton, a tiny resort on the island of Langkawi, in northern Malaysia, I had no hesitation in packing my bags to check it out. But first, I had to talk to him to get the low-down on my destination and find out what I should be eating.

Langkawi Charm by Shimworld

I had the privilege of visiting Pulau Langkawi with Tourism Malaysia during the July 2010 Mega Fam trip and I’m delighted to share my island-hopping, cable car ride and hotel inspection photo journey. We lived 3 wholesome days at the multi award-winning Frangipani Langkawi Beach Resort & Spa and inspected The Andaman Langkawi and The Danna Langkawi all 3 of which are awesome luxury accommodation. As much as the islands are shrouded with a heritage of myths and legends, it is no myth that Langkawi is an extremely popular holiday and wedding destination. It’s evidently hugely popular with the Middle Eastern tourists and an opportune run-in with Christiana from Cyprus whom we met on Beras Basah Island.

More from his blog here..

Interesting picture captured of the villa. These privately own villa's are managed by two group. One operates under sarivillage & one under villa del porto (villadelporto.com). The villa's location up high on the hills which gives a great view of the surrounding port & island. Good to hear that all the villa's already open to public..

Unesco extends Langkawi's status as geopark

LANGKAWI, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has given its approval to extend Langkawi's status as a geopark, until 2015.

Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) public relations officer Ramizi Hasan said the approval followed, after a review by two UNESCO officers in July.

He said the Langkawi Geopark was declared by the UNESCO Global Geopark Network as the 52nd geopark on June 1, 2007.

"Many achievements have been recorded, including an increase in tourist arrivals since the declaration of the Langkawi geopark.

"We appreciate UNESCO for the approval," he told Bernama here.

Fenomena 'Moon Halo' Tarik Minat Orang Ramai

Langkawi Island, Malaysia - Chasing Mirages

Because I have such a huge backlog of pictures and experiences to share, and I don’t have time to make such involved galleries as I did for Inle Lake and Bagan, I’m going to try something new – a lightning round of posts.
For each location that I visited, I’ll create a post including 5 pictures or less, choosing the sights and experiences that most deeply impressed me.  The only exceptions I’ll make are for stories with an environmental theme.  In those cases I may include more than 5 pictures.
Here’s the first one – Langkawi Island, Malaysia.  Langkawi is located on the northwest coast of peninsular Malaysia.  It’s a well an over-developed island paradise, with extensive white-sand beaches, waterfalls, mountains, and plenty of clear blue seas for watersports.  As soon as you get off the ferry, rent a Kia hatchback or a scooter and the island is yours!

The other great thing about Langkawi is that it’s the only place in Malaysia where alcohol is duty free.
The first picture, above, shows  a viewing bridge at the top of the Langkawi cable car.  From the bridge I could see much of the island as well as the limitless blue sea.  But the best part of standing on the bridge wasn’t the view.  It was closing my eyes and letting the sound and touch of the sea breeze overwhelm my senses, feeling as though I was hovering in between that opening in the mountains, high above the canyon below.

Interesting blog from Chasing Mirages.. Please refer here for details..

AL :-
The one interest me is not the blog itself but the comments. Most of the viewers is environmentalist. Most of them have an opinion about Langkawi. Some of the words is quite outrages & make me wonder is the environmental issue it that bad in Langkawi compared to Bali or Phuket? Anyway.. Interesting blog & comments..

Langkawi 420 Million Boost in Tourism Industry

From the Star - 8/10/11
As you know Langkawi got a boost of 420million from government for 5 years plan. A plan call The Langkawi 5-Year Tourism Development Plan will be launch to promote tourist arrival & domestic tourism. A ranger park similar to ones in overseas will be set up to monitor environment of Langkawi & to cater the eco-tourism industry.

A revamp of LADA will took place to incorporate this division. Hopefully it just not stop there. A total revamp of LADA need to took place in order for more effective & new faces should be brought in to give fresh idea's. A total look need to take place to see what has been spend for the last few years & its impact to the tourism industry in Langkawi.

A newly activity & tourist spots need to be open in order to cater the more & more demanding visitors. This will put Langkawi on the spot at least at par as others islands in the world. There're rooms to play & cater. More professional tourism approach need to take place. Locals should be opt to be train as Rangers & as well train guides.. With the approach of nature & eco-tourism.

Hope the plan should took place without hassle & not to forget inputs from fellow NGO's & others to get the best solution possible to the island.

Masterplan To Boost Langkawi As International Tourist Destination

ALOR SETAR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Five Year Tourism Development Master Plan will boost the government's efforts in making the island an international standard tourist destination and help increase foreign tourist arrivals in the country.

Langkawi Tourism Association deputy chairman Phisol Ishak said the master plan, when implemented well, could make Langkawi an international tourist destination known for its green attractions.

"Langkawi has the potential of an international green destination," he told Bernama when contacted.

He was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's announcement when tabling the 2012 Budget today, that the Five Year Tourism Development Master Plan for Langkawi would be launched with an allocation of RM420 million.

Among the initiatives taken were to restructure the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada), the establishment of a forest ranger team, upgrade of the museum, beach and commercial areas and a more efficient public transportation system.

Meanwhile, Lada general manager Datuk Azman Umar concurred with Phisol that the five-year plan for the island would boost its natural attractions.

He said the allocation was based on a tourism blue print prepared by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the finance ministry and it would act as a foundation to attract more investors to the island.

"This is a huge amount of allocation spreading in a five-year plan. We believe it will lure more investors to the island," he said when contacted today.

To LADA.. Yes its a huge spending but it has to be use wisely & please concentrate on eco-tourism concept & do not to concentrate on others..

How to have a fun-filled holiday without a guide

‘Driving yourself is the best way to explore the island’
Prerna Singh, Lawyer
Even though Langkawi is a small island I decided to explore it on my own, without any tourist-like planning. One of the few good things that I did was buying a map of Langkawi. Renting a car was next on the list. Driving yourself is the best way to explore the beauty and adventure of the island. We obviously did break some minor traffic rules, as we were out to explore things on our own, but managed to not get into trouble. Unlike India, you wouldn’t find anyone walking on the roads, who can assist you with the routes so we were just on the mercy of the map and the sign boards.

The visit to the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club had me ogling at the cool yachts. I travelled to beaches such as Rhu beach, Cenang beach, Kok and Tengah Beach. The best part remained that everything was impromptu and unplanned, and that added to the thrill.

Things to keep in mind:
* Carry your driving license  if you want to drive there.
* Buy a map.
* Experiment with Malay food.
* Shopping isn’t a very good idea here. You could rather splurge on adventure and water sports.

Blythe to race off-road in Langkawi

Another road racer to compete in MTB stage race

Road racer Adam Blythe (Omega Pharma Lotto) will be competing in the Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge (LIMBC) in late October. The sprinter is the latest roadie to sign up after Chris Froome (Sky).
The British-born Blythe, who this week is racing the Tour de Wallone-Picardie (Circuit Franco Belge) as defending champion, confirmed that he will join Vuelta a Espana runner-up Froome to test his mountain bike skills on the island of Langkawi.
Blythe, who turns 22 this week, has already spent two and a half seasons in the professional peloton and twice ridden some of cycling's greatest monuments, including the Giro d'Italia and both the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix as right-hand man to fellow teammate and world number one Philippe Gilbert.
Despite having such an important supporting role, Blythe still managed to open his professional account in his first full season in 2010 with four wins and a fifth place in stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia. The promising youngster is now looking to add to that tally in the last remaining weeks of the season before heading to Malaysia for the LIMBC.

Geocaching Sites In Langkawi

I've found an interesting hobby that existed. Its geocaching. In wikipedia it says :-

SOURCE WIKIPEDIA

Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device[2] and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", anywhere in the world.
A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook where the geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it with their established code name. Larger containers such as plastic storage containers (tupperware or similar) or ammunition boxes can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little value. Geocaching is often described as a "game of high-tech hide and seek", sharing many aspects with benchmarking, trigpointing, orienteering, treasure-hunting, letterboxing, and waymarking.
Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica.[3] After 10 years of activity there are over 1,532,000 active geocaches published on various websites. There are over 5 million geocachers worldwide.

FAQ about Geocaching.
--
Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online. Geocaching are more concentrating on geological sites around the world.

In Langkawi at the moment there's already several Geocache sites such in Langkawi such as :-
6. Seven Wells
7. Gua Kelawar
8. Tanjung Burau

Its an interesting activity but you need to have a GPS to play. Well to be part of the geochaching please log in here. If you're a geocaching member i'll give you a site which you may register in your geochaching. Please find a place called Black Sand Beach or Pantai Pasir Hitam. Its sand are mixed with natural minerals such as Zircon, etc2. ( which makes the sand black (mix of black & typical sand color).

This should be a site you can register as a Geocache site.  Pictures of Black Sand Beach or Pantai Pasir Hitam here.

Part 48 – Four Seasons Resort Langkawi: A Luxurious Paradise and a Vacation Destination of a Lifetime!

Wow, I would love to stay here!’ I can vividly remember saying this phrase when I had the chance to inspect one of the 16 beach villas (plus 4 Family Beach Villas) in the majestic hideaway of Langkawi.  It was May of last year when I did a site visit at Four Seasons Resort in Langkawi. The place fits exactly like a beautiful post card picture come to life.

In this article I am very pleased to feature Fours Seasons Resort Langkawi, proud full sponsor of my recent indulgent escape.  For more information about the resort, visit http://www.fourseasons.com/langkawi
On Sunday, I arrived in Langkawi from Penang via a comfortable 4-hour ferry ride.  The Four Seasons Resort Langkawi pride themselves on personal care and unrivalled service, which instantly shined from the moment I was picked up via the resort’s private car. Travel time from Penang Ferry Terminal to the resort is approximately 25 minutes.

The first thing that caught my attention upon arrival at the resort was the Greeting Pavillion which is set in a tropical lush landscape and in the midst of a reflective pond, creating a serene ambience. I was welcomed and escorted by the Sales Staff, who offered me refreshment while I was checking in.  A few moments later, I was met and greeted by Philippe Larrieu, the Resort Manager.
Within 10 minutes, an electric cart picked me up and brought me to the comfort of my upgraded beach villa. I was really amazed on the room assigned to me. “Wow” was the first word uttered. It was an instant rebirth of a memory of absolute luxury facing the splendid beachside and overlooking the azure sea.  The 220m2 size beach villa proudly offers a massive living area in its luxuriously presented tropical decor. I also noticed the  welcome bowl of fresh fruits’ on the living centre table. Each room of the villa offers an alluring view of the beachfront or the lush surrounds.
