Lada Hopes To Double Number Of Tourists From South Africa

LANGKAWI, May 24 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Development Authority hopes to double the number of South African tourists to the island resort this year from only 7,000 in 2010.

Lada principal assistant manager of tourism Azmil Munif Bukhari said today the authority and Tourism Malaysia would jointly promote Langkawi in South Africa and Mauritius from tomorrow until June 2.

He told Bernama that the promotion would focus on Malaysian food and culture.

Azmil Munif also said the recent promotion in Singapore had been well received by the tourists.

A total of 61,524 Singaporeans visited Langkawi last year, a three per cent increase over the 2009 figure of 59,678, he said.
