Ministry Approves Langkawi Wave Breaker Project

LANGKAWI, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry has approved a project to build wave breakers in Kuala Teriang and Kuala Melaka in Langkawi, Kedah.

Langkawi Fishermen Association chairman Mahadzir Ibrahim said it would be implemented this year.

He did not reveal the cost of the project.

"The wave breakers will shield the fishermen from choppy waves when they go out fishing and when their boats return to shore," he told Bernama here Thursday.

He said records showed that there were 2,800 fishermen in Langkawi, including part-timers.
