160 flood victims allowed to go home

LANGKAWI: The last group of 160 flood victims from 55 families affected by the floods here have been allowed to return home.

They were among 275 families, comprising 1,347 people, from Kedawang, Padang Mat Sirat and Ulu Melaka who were evacuated since Thursday when their villages were flooded following a few days of rain.Langkawi welfare officer Che Ahmad Che Noor said the flood victims who were allowed to return home were those evacuated to the relief centre at SMK Ke-dawang.

Langkawi member of parliament Datuk Paduka Abu Bakar Taib thanked government departments and agencies, such as the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Department and the police for their help, and also some hotels here for providing for the breaking of fast and pre-dawn meal for flood victims. -- Bernama

In Langkawi, its member of parliament, Datuk Paduka Abu Bakar Taib, said a committee would be formed to assist the district natural disaster committee to expedite channeling of aid to flood victims.

A total of 1,347 people, involving 275 families, from Kedawang, Padang Mat Sirat and Ulu Melaka were affected by the flood which hit the island since Thursday.
The situation has improved and the evacuees have returned to their homes since yesterday. - Bernama
