As for my stay on Langkawi, it was really nice, I tried to visit every corners of it, but even on motorbike, the island is way too big! But I must say, I'm not really a beach guy, so it wasn't my favourite place overall....

Aktiviti Motosikal Berkuasa Besar Produk Pelancongan Terbaru Langkawi

Langkawi, whats in it for visitors

Langkawi Island, Malaysia Langkawi, an archipelago of island located west of Kedah, Malaysia, is among one of the hot tourist attraction in Malaysia. Accessible through air and sea.

Malaysia has lots of tourist site that in terms of scenery and nature, are consider better than Langkawi, but Langkawi still remain one of the favourite, especially among Malaysian. The reason behind it may be because Langkawi is a shopping paradise (for certain goods) and also a beautiful island with beautiful beach and scenery.

Langkawi is among the few place where imported products are not being tax, so the imported things found in Langkawi is cheaper than most of the place in Malaysia.

This is a paradise especially for those who are into these 'certain goods' which are liquor, cigarette and chocolate, as these goods which are mostly being heavily tax are levied on Langkawi (example, commonly found beer like Tiger, Carlsberg, the price of one can on the mainland can be around RM5.00/ $1.66, but on Langkawi, its only around RM1.50/$0.50), so do the calculation yourself, or even better, just buy a carton and drink till you throw, and it will still not hurt your wallet. This is why you will hear a saying among the local that 'drinking alcoholic drinks is cheaper than drinking water'.

Here, liquor, cigarette and chocolate can be found easily, as a lot of shop will be selling them, and in this competitive environment, consumers will be the one who’s laughing. But be 'WARNED' as the price is CHEAP, there will be some trade off, and that will be in term of 'Taste', the chocolate doesn't seem to have any difference, but the alcoholic drink and cigarette will definitely taste a bit blander than the ones found on mainland.

One more thing to celebrate for the chocolate lover is that Chocolate fair is being held quite often, so check for it.

Projek Ternakan Ikan Kerapu Langkawi Dijangka Hasilkan RM15 Juta

Langkawi Buffalo Park Needs New Entrance Road

LANGKAWI, 7 JUNE, 2011: The management of Buffalo Park in Kampung Nyior Cabang here has appealed to the authorities, including the Langkawi Development Authority, to build a new entrance road to the park.

Its manager, Johari Saad, said today the existing road was narrow and already damaged, making it difficult for vehicles to bring tourists to the park.

He said residents in surrounding area would also benefit from the new road.

There are 70 buffaloes at the park which produces more than 50 litres of fresh milk every day for making cheese, yogurt and ice-cream.

About 1,500 locals and foreigners visit the park every month.

-- BERNAMA

AL :-
I'm not sure about this idea. Even if there is no proper road i think the tourist will still be flocking to the site.. Rather than the money use elsewhere in terms of promoting or enhancing the things that can be offered from the farm existence.

Civilisation Everywhere ~ Corals & Shell Picture..

Washed corals, shells & a package of butter.

Picture of the day by Daniel. Thanks for sharing. More interesting pictures here.

Comment by him..

Civilisation Is Everywhere
So there I was strolling around on this small, quiet beach feeling like I´d found a piece of heaven on the Earth. A place where nature took care of itself without the modern ways of civilization intruding.
Then I looked down and sure as hell spotted a package of butter among the pieces of washed up coral and shells. Seconds later a modern jetliner passed a couple of hundred meters above my head.
The illusion was no more.

Conserve Natural Environment To Draw Tourists Call

LANGKAWI, June 5 (Bernama) -- Players in the tourism industry have to conserve and maintain Malaysia's natural environment, which is a major draw for tourists heading to the country, said Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit.

He said efforts to make the tourism sector a major source of income for the country would fail if these natural attractions were contaminated.

Dawos also urged the people of Langkawi to cooperate in taking care of public amenities and prevent vandalism as it would only cause losses for both the government and the people.

"It will frustrate plans to develop Langkawi's economy," he said when closing the 2011 Langkawi Geopark Carnival organised by the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) at Dataran Lang, here, Saturday night.

The carnival was held in conjunction with the fourth anniversary of Langkawi's status as part of the Global Geopark Network by Unesco in 2007.

Langkawi – “Langkawi Permata Kedah” (Jewel of Kedah) by Malaysia Travel Guide

Langkawi is actually an archipelago of islands off the Northwestern coast of Kuala Perlis with the main island, known as “Pulau Langkawi” in Malay.

These islands have long been shrouded in legends and myths, with the legend of Mahsuri being one of the most well known.

The Legend of Mahsuri

Legend has it that Mahsuri was a maiden who was wrongly accused of adultery. For that she was sentenced to death.

According to the legend, during the execution, she bled white blood which indicated her innocence. With her last breath, she cursed the island of Langkawi to be riddled with bad luck for seven generations and only after the seven generations have passed would the curse on Langkawi Island be lifted.

Many of the locals believed this legend to be true, citing the incidents of crop failures and numerous invasions by the Siamese army with the last one occurring in 1821 which occurred after the death of Mahsuri.

Languid Langkawi

We find an unusual companion as we tour the country's biggest group of islands — the rain
At Langkawi, you don't sip hot chocolate by the windowsill when it rains. At least, I didn't. I was stranded at sea pretending to be a pirate. Savvy?
The largest group of islands in Malaysia, Langkawi is a maze of emerald green and turquoise blue. There are rolling hills swathed in silver-grey mist that follow you everywhere and palm trees that wave you by. As if that weren't enough, happy clouds bounce around in clear blue skies and light up the pristine, silent roads. But, there is danger lurking at the corner.
“The cow,” says our guide Azham Ahmed, “is the most dangerous animal in Langkawi.” We look around, imagining a raging bull on standby. Instead, I notice a gentle beige-coloured cow dawdling by us, turning one lazy eye to observe the seven pairs gawking at it. “We have more accidents caused by cows lying on the roads at night than drunk drivers.” And we all understood.

Langkawi And Juju To Cooperate

Jeju Island Geopark
LANGKAWI, June 2 (Bernama) -- Langkawi and Jeju Island authorities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop their geoparks.

Langkawi Development Authority general manager Datuk Azman Umur said on Thursday the MoU covered sharing of technology and information and would also include cooperation in education.

"We will make full use of the MoU to bring Langkawi Geopark to the international level," he said.

He said that Lada assistant manager Hanafi Ahmad led a seven-man delegation to South Korea for the signing last week.

Five of the delegation members were from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, which will have a student exchange programme with Korean academic institutions.

The geopark, which encompasses the 99 islands in the Langkawi chain, is the first geopark in Southeast Asia and was recognised by Unesco, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, in 2007.

Jeju Island will celebrate its first anniversary as a Unesco-recognised geopark in October.

Jeju island is a nice place to visit.. Hopefully this MOU will benefit both Islands.

Jellyfish Stranded

Picture of the day. Jellyfish presence in Langkawi are no more a secret. There're rarely cases of jellyfish attack but it did happen. Some hotels make a pro-active action by having 1st aid by the beach. Normally typical attack can be cure by using vinegar. That is why the tourist must be aware by the hotel on the 1st aid kid in the case of attack.

Most of the jellyfish as per above picture are harmless but some like the tiny box type are very dangerous. Sightings were noted even in Langkawi. Some actual cases highligted in the media as well as discussed in Trip advisor. But not to worry its rarely happen.

My opinion is the jellyfish problem in Langkawi is not that critical. But, if things or improvement to control the species does not take place there will be no more people want to swim at the beach. I wonder if the current local Hospital has the ability to take cases like box type jellyfish attack.

Thanks Nina for sharing the pic. More from her here.

Gamat Langkawi Pupus?

Banyaknya gamat!
Gambar hari ini. Langkawi terkenal dgn gamatnya. Kedai gamatnya pun amat banyak. Pilihan menarik.

Masalahnya sekarang, Langkawi amat kekurangan bekalan gamat.

A Langkawi Experience For Hafiz FlyFM

To some, Langkawi could just be another gorgeous escape to the blue ocean and flawless beaches. A member of the Global Geoparks Network which fosters the conservation of the location's geographical heritage, Langkawi is a beautiful getaway filled with mystical elements. From its history of legends and myths, Langkawi is a place where monumental acts of love happened.

What really impressed Hafiz Hatim (who currently hosts Fly 30 on Fly FM with JayDee) about Langkawi was when he witnessed an eagle feeding. This majestic occurence takes place Kilim Nature Park. Famous for its mangrove forest, this is the habitat for hundreds of birds of prey. According to him, from a boat, the boatmen will throw bait into the water, and then just get the cameras ready. The sky will be covered with these beautiful predators circling the waters and then swooping in at breakneck speed for the food offered.
Plus the name Langkawi is derived from Helang which means Eagle. As a Geopark, Langkawi is a great place for nature lovers to discover its ecosystem.

Langkawi incinerator to generate electricity

LANGKAWI: The country’s first waste incineration plant which runs on power generated from solid waste, will commence operations here in August.
Among the notable features of this plant, which is part of the green campaign initiative, is its ability to generate its own electricity by burning waste.
The plant in Kampung Belanga Pecah, Jalan Air Hangat is now on a trial run to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Department of Environment (DOE), Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung said said after visiting the plant here yesterday.
The RM68mil plant can process 100 tons per-day of waste to gene-rate one megawatt of electricity.
National Solid Waste Management Department director-general Datuk Nadzi Yahaya says that the power produced was more than enough to operate the plant.
Chor said the plant is also capable of segregating solid waste and recycling.

AL :
So it will operates in Augusts. No more delays please..
