“The majority of Malay/Muslims from the rural areas are still poor but now for the religious conscious residents, they have headaces in trying to educate their children in an environment they had no idea some 20 years ago. Nowadays entertainment outlets including bars and spas are just a stone’s throw away from their homes. Even tiny stores owned by Malays, have beers in their refrigerators for sale. I had seen and scolded some Malays teenagers when they tried to buy the drinks.".

Apa yg dikatakan oleh blogger ni adalah benar. Kepesatan pembangunan Langkawi tidak dinikmati sepenuhnya oleh org2 Langkawi. Terutama penduduk. Sehinggakan byk org langkawi masih di takuk sama. Masalah sosial pula makin meningkat. Kita perlu berhenti sejenak & buat muhasabah diri utk melihat benda2 ni. 

Kita kadang2 tak nampak sbb kita disana tapi bila org luar yg komen maka itulah hakikatnya..

Itulah persoalan yg perlu kita teliti & lihat.

GLC perlu kerjasama penduduk setempat ~ Dato' Johari Baharom

KUAH - Syarikat Berkaitan Kerajaan (GLC) yang bercadang membuat sebarang projek di Langkawi perlu berbincang dengan individu berkaitan bagi mengelakkan pembaziran.

Saranan itu disuarakan Timbalan Menteri Pertanian Dan Industri Asas Tani, Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom ketika meninjau ke beberapa pengkalan nelayan

Menurutnya, kegagalan projek sangkar ikan dan jeti nelayan di Penarak yang tidak praktikal perlu dijadikan iktibar.

“Perlu berbincang dengan mereka yang bakal menggunakannya, bukan mendirikan projek hanya mengikut aspek teknikalnya sahaja.

“Setelah siap projek, mereka yang bakal menggunakannya tidak boleh berbuat demikian, kami setuju dengan prinsip teknikal tetapi kehendak pengguna perlu dipenuhi juga,” katanya ketika ditemui wakil Sinar Harian.

Mohd Johari berkata, pihak kementerian mengazetkan kawasan Selat Bagan Nyior di Pulau Tuba sebagai kawasan memancing dengan melepaskan beberapa benih ikan.

Menurutnya, industri gamat akan dimulakan semula dengan mengadakan pusat penyelidikan gamat. Sebuah tukun akan dibina di kawasan Temoyong bagi pembenihan ikan sekali gus memulakan industri makanan siput sedut.

“Projek di Kuala Chenang yang diluluskan oleh Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak tahun lalu telah ditambah peruntukan dari RM7 juta kepada RM9 juta.

“RM 7 juta untuk pembinaan jeti manakala RM 2 juta untuk tembok menahan air, katanya..

Cek boleh gelak ja dgr kenyataan Dato'. Sebenarnya Dato' Bakaq dah 'highlight' benda ni kat Parlimen. Tapi biasala. GLC ni kadang2 bodoh piang sikit. Konon depa power. Lani dok kata nak buat projek sangkaq la apala. Sedangkan LKIM yg pakar bidang tu pun fail buat projek tu.

Apa2 pun, kalau nak buat projek apa2 sekalipun di Langkawi. Tolong 'consult' org2 lama di Langkawi @ LADA @ belajar dr kesilapan. Jgn buat benda setakat gajah putih @ hangat2 taik lembu.

Blighted Jewel of Kedah ~ Letter to editor THe Star

I WOULD like to congratulate StarMetro North for publishing several articles on protecting Langkawi’s natural treasures. I have sent you a photo on the famous Pantai Cenang in Langkawi. There was an open burning of plastic and rubbish on the beach. Hundreds of tourists walked past the fire and the rubbish. Most of them were shocked. And rightly so. My husband and I came to Langkawi to escape the winter cold in Europe. It was our first visit to the island and will probably be our last.
We had heard so much about the pristine natural environment and read all the descriptions of the Unesco Geopark but when we finally got to Langkawi, we found that the reality of this ‘paradise island’ is very different.

Even from the airport runway when we got down from the plane, one of the first things we noticed were the hills in the distance where the rainforest trees have been stripped away.
We were shocked by the amount of rubbish almost everywhere on the island; big piles of stinking garbage lie on the sides of the road almost everywhere.
We visited the famous Seven Wells’ Waterfall and were horrified to see how much rubbish was floating in the water and thrown around the surrounding jungle. Local teenagers were washing their hair using shampoo in the water — something we would never see in Europe.
One woman changed her baby’s nappy and just left it on a rock and then washed the baby’s dirty bottom in the water beside some swimming tourists. When they protested, she just looked at them as if there was nothing wrong.

I suggest authorities should take note of the comment by tourist very seriously. It supposed to be a good memories when they go back home but instate they bring horror stories about environmental pollution in Langkawi which were created by ourself. 

And i do know the number of box jellyfish increases due to water quality of the surrounding sea depleted. Please do sometimes before thing get worst. 

p/s: Last time i've highlighted rubbish issue.. its not uncommon if someone starts to make excuses.

Pembinaan Rumah Transit Di Bukit Malut Tanggungjawab Kerajaan Negeri - Umno Kedah

ALOR SETAR, 5 Jan (Bernama) -- Pembinaan rumah transit bagi mangsa kebakaran di Bukit Malut, Langkawi adalah di bawah tanggungjawab kerajaan negeri dan bukan di bawah Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN).

Pengerusi Badan Perhubungan Umno Kedah Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah berkata kerajaan negeri sepatutnya berhenti berdalih dan memulakan langkah membantu rakyat negeri yang menghadapi masalah.

"Kerajaan negeri yang harus memulakan kerja bagi membina rumah baru dengan menyediakan tapak rumah, mengadakan mesyuarat dan sebagainya. Kalau tidak mampu menyediakan peruntukan kewangan, beritahu tidak ada duit, bolehlah pohon kepada kerajaan pusat," katanya dalam satu kenyataan, di sini Rabu.

Semalam, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Perumahan, Kerajaan Tempatan, Kerja Raya, Pembangunan Luar Bandar dan Basmi Kemiskinan negeri Datuk Phahrolrazi Zawawi dilapor berkata tanggungjawab membina rumah bagi 59 keluarga nelayan yang menjadi mangsa kebakaran itu adalah di bawah kerajaan pusat kerana kesemua mereka diletakkan di bawah jagaan MKN.

Mengulas lanjut, Ahmad Bashah berkata kenyataan Phahrolrazi itu mencerminkan sikap sebenar kerajaan negeri yang diteraju PAS tersebut, yang lebih suka mengambil jalan mudah dengan menuding jari kepada kerajaan pusat setiap kali rakyat berdepan bencana.

"Setiap kali apabila timbul soal kebajikan rakyat, kerajaan PAS Kedah 'cuci tangan' dan serah bulat-bulat kepada kerajaan pusat," katanya.

40 yachts for Langkawi regatta

LANGKAWI, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- Forty local and foreign yachts have confirmed their participation in the five-day 'Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2011', beginning here on Jan 11.

The chairman of the championship's technical committee, Ahmad Zailani Bashah, said among the countries taking part were Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, Thailand, Germany and Malaysia.

A new event in the Hobie16 class was the 16-foot yacht handled by two yachtsmen and so far, six yachts had already registered for this event, he told Bernama, here Tuesday.

Lady in Langkawi

After spending Christmas in Singapore, the next stop on my winter sun adventure was Malaysia. It wasn’t just any part of Malaysia, though. It was Langkawi. Located off the west coast of the country near the border with Thailand, Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands. The largest, called Langkawi, is where I spent the past three days.

Langkawi is known for its beautiful beaches, lush forests, picturesque waterfalls, and great water sports. It is also home to some pretty impressive wildlife, several species of which I became rather attached to during my stay in the northern part of the island.

Aircraft Spotting In Langkawi

For those who love Aircraft Spotting. Langkawi offers an excellent choice of great places for spotting. The airport is beautiful and the weather is great. There's even a platform atop of a hill (refer as red spot in the map below). The place overlooks the entire terminal & airfield which offers panoramic view of airport area. The place is call Observation Hill or Bukit Chenkuan (as the locals call it).

Its was always full of Aircraft Spotters during LIMA Exhibition (Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition) which were held once every two years.

The best spotting runway will be Runway21.

What is Aircraft Spotting?
Aircraft spotting or plane spotting is the observation and logging of the registration numbers of aircraft: gliders, powered aircraft, balloons, airships, helicopters, and microlights.
When spotting aircraft, observers notice the key attributes of an aircraft. They may notice a distinctive noise from its engine or the number of vapour trails it is leaving. They will assess the size of the aircraft and the number, type and position of its engines. Another clue is the position of wings relative to the fuselage and the degree to which they are swept rearwards. Are the wings above the fuselage, below it, or fixed at midpoint? Perhaps it is a monoplane, biplane, or triplane. The position of the tailplane relative to the fin(s) and the shape of the fin are also clues to its type. If it is an antique or light aircraft it might have a tail wheel. Some aircraft types have a fixed undercarriage while others have retractable wheels.

Dua beradik nyaris rentung

KUAH - Dua beradik terpaksa meredah asap yang menyelubungi ruang rumah untuk menyelamatkan diri selepas tersedar rumah kedai dua tingkat yang didiami, hampir hangus dijilat api dalam kebakaran di Taman Medan Berjaya sehingga mengakibatkan kerugian kira-kira RM100,000.

Ketika kejadian, mereka nyenyak tidur dalam bilik dan hanya tersedar selepas melihat asap memasuki bawah pintu bilik berkenaan.
