Inovasi 'Ekor Biawak' Usahawan Langkawi

- Utusan

Anaklangkawi :-

Panorama Cable Car Langkawi to widen revenue sources

LANGKAWI cable car operator Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (PLSB) is targeting a 14 per cent revenue increase this year from the RM13.2 million it chalked in 2010.

The company's chief operating officer Ebi Azly Abdullah said while the bulk of the revenue is from the cable car fares, the company, owned by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, will look at non-fare revenue sources to boost earnings.

AL :-
Hopefully the strategy to widen revenue does not means increasing rental of current shops rates & fares for the cable car.

Cleanliness, Environmental Protection Crucial For Malaysia's Tourism Industry

LANGKAWI, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Cleanliness and protecting the environment are crucial for Malaysia in order to become a major tourist destination in the world, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

She said many tourists had described Malaysia as a good tourist destination but were not very happy about cleanliness at tourist spots especially toilets.

"Malaysia is nice but "the nose will guide me to the toilets" they say. Therefore, I urge all Malaysians to write directly to the relevant parties especially the operators if they find tourist spots or toilets to be not in good condition in terms of cleanliness," she said at the Langkawi Tourism Industry Awards 2010/2011 ceremony here Friday night.

She said the ministry introduced the "1Malaysia Green, 1Malaysia Clean" initiative to educate and increase tour operators' and public awareness on the importance of upkeeping cleanliness and pristine state of tourist spots.

Ng said the ministry was working hard to develop a thriving and sustainable tourism industry that did not compromise on the existing biodiversity through e "preservation, conservation and protection" of the environment and the country's nature and cultural heritage.

"Irresponsible behaviour can affect the environment and outcome is flash floods. This is not good for the tourism industry," she said.

Ng said cleanliness and protecting the environment would be the main focus of the ministry to attract more tourists to Malaysia.

"We have been selected as one of the world's top ten countries for 2010 in term of tourist destinations. Out of 10, only two Asian countries. First is China, at fourth place. However, China is huge country with 1.3 billion people. Second is tiny Malaysia at eighth place. We only have 28 million people," she said.

She said under Malaysia's Tourism Transformation Plan, Malaysia aimed tp achieve 36 million tourist arrival and RM168 billion in tourism receipts by 2020.

At the function, The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa received the Outstanding Hotel/Resort Award.

Mardi Agro Park, Langkawi received the Outstanding Innovative Product/Programme award while Four Seasons Resort Langkawi for Outstanding Green Effort award.

The Outstanding Restaurant award went to Restaurant Putumayo while AB Motel was given the Outstanding Budget Accomodation award, HBS Evergreen Tour Sdn Bhd (Outstanding Boat Operator), Osman Ayob (Outstanding Tourist Guide), Sala Travel & Tours Langkawi (Outstanding Tour & Travel Agent), Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (Outstanding Tourism Product) and Jetty Point Duty Free Complex (Outstanding Retail Outlet).

Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) Tourism Manager Megat Shahrul Azman Abas was chosen as Tourism Personality.

The Malaysian National News Agency, Bernama was among the recipients of a special award during the tourism awards held at Lada Auditorium.

Laidback in Langkawi by danjumbuck

Amazing Landscape Pics.
I went to the idyllic island of Langkawi for a short break to refresh and recharge. I've had the wonderful opportunity to visit many times before in the past but this is probably the first time where I've had the pleasure of taking my own time and doing things at my own pace. I didn't do as much but it was beautiful and peaceful. Here are some of my favourite photographic memories from my trip.

Full article & amazing macro pictures here..

The charms of Berjaya Resort Langkawi by Azy

This was my first trip to Langkawi Island. We didn't really go on trips like these when I was younger. Weekends were spent running wild at a fruit orchard, fishing, climbing trees and swimming in a beautiful unspoiled river in Janda Baik, Pahang. I never felt like I was missing out and there was definitely no peer pressure in not visiting the usual holiday destinations.

This means that I am easily entranced and fascinated, just like a child would. One naturally associates the island with beaches but I never knew about its beautiful mountain range and every meal we had was - quite surprisingly - delicious (more on these in another post).

Al :
I've never come across Berjaya beach review before apart from tripadvisor.. Great review & nice info regarding the resort..

Tower To Be Langkawi Landmark

LANGKAWI, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- A 135-metre tower is to be built in Langkawi at an estimated cost of over RM10 million. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is confident that the new landmark on the resort island will be another tourist attraction.

He said the top floor would be able to hold more than 50 people, and the view offered would be spectacular, especially at sunset.

The tower would also have a restaurant. Dr Mahathir said the idea of a tower for Langkawi was first discussed more than 20 years ago.

Datuk Abu Hassan Mohamed, executive chairman of Blackrock, the company undertaking the project, said that work to reclaim 28 acres (11.2ha) at the Kuah Beach will begin next month.

Construction will begin in March, and the tower is expected to be completed within 24 months, he said.

AL :-
At last. After years of talking about the project kick-off. I'm 50-50 about the project. But its of course going to be a great spot for Photographer lovers... Hope the Construction company take into account the surrounding environment & follow the construction guideline. Hope the authority keep good track of all projects in Langkawi..

White Bellied Sea Eagle - Burung Helang Langkawi

Picture of the day. White bellied sea eagle featured in Langkawi. Found in Langkawi Rainforest. For those bird lovers, this eagle quite rare to find in Langkawi. In Australia this bird is under Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The nest is a large deep bowl constructed of sticks and branches, and generally sited in large trees overlooking bodies of water. Cliffs are also suitable nesting sites, while those nests built directly on the ground are located on islands. That is why Langkawi is among the best place for the type of eagle breeds.

Great resolution picture & thanks for sharing the lovely picture (cjacksonuk77- more pictures here)

Best Chicken Rise In Town : Pakya Nasi Ayam by I Love to Eat

The first time my husband told me there's a very delicious chicken rice restaurant here in Pekan Kuah , I was so excited. The first time we went there, they're sold out (around 3pm). The next trip to Langkawi we determined to go there early. We're in luck!

As you can see the restaurant is very simple and more like coffee shop- style.

After the food arrived, I was speechless... Really..! Where's the chili sauce? After 1 spoonful, I was surprised.. It actually tasted delicious.. A very different style of chicken rice, I'd say. You SHOULD try it!!

Jumlah bot meningkat ~ Mana Janji PM

KEDAWANG - Kira-kira 200 nelayan mendesak Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) mempercepatkan projek pangkalan nelayan baru di Kuala Chenang.

Pengerusi Komuniti Pengurusan Sumber Perikanan (KPSP) Sungai Chenang, Asri Shaaban berkata, pembinaan pangkalan itu perlu dipercepatkan kerana sering kali berlaku kesesakan bot nelayan hampir setiap hari.

Timbermad :-
PM dah bagi kata putus. Berapa lama LKIM nak buat kajian.. Jgn ambik masa lama sgt.. Kesian kat nelayan situ. Kepada PM kita bertindaklah jgn sampai sembang tak jatuh..

Ambil Kira Kepentingan Nelayan Sebelum Bangunkan Kawasan - Datuk Johari Baharom

Kereta kabel Langkawi: Mana budi bahasa? - Utusan

The event's director, A. Chandrakumanan said he had requested that the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) assist in the registration of athletes for the championship, which was to be held next month.

"I am aware that the postponement will affect the athletes' participation. I wouldn't want to disappoint those who are keen to take part, who have been asking me about this year's championship," he told Bernama.

Langkawi To Carry Out Promotion In Cambodia, Finland, Singapore

LANGKAWI, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) will carry out three simultaneous tourism promotions to Cambodia, Finland and Singapore this week, its tourism manager Megat Shaharul Azman Abas said.

The events will take place at the Asean Tourism Forum in Cambodia on Jan 19-23, Matka Finland on Jan 21-23 and Singapore on Jan 21-23.

"Lada hopes that the promotions would further increase tourist arrivals to the island," he told Bernama.

The promotions would be carried out in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia and participated by hotels as well as tour and travel operators, he said.

On the promotion in Finland, he said there had been an increase in the number of tourists from the Scandinavian and Baltic countries due to the availability of charter flights.

He said that Finnish airlines mounted 14 flights a week from last month to March from Helsinki, carrying over 200 passengers each from Finland as well as from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia and Latvia.

Lada targets 2.5 million tourist arrivals this year.

This restaurant is another must go place every time we go back to Langkawi. They serves Malay-style seafood using all very fresh ingredients. It's situated by the river at Jalan Bukit Malut.

The foods are delicious & worth the trip (every time). There's one problem though, I'm not sure why, but they took quite a while to serve the food (everytime). So, make sure u had light snack before u come to this restaurant. Other than that, nothing to complaint.

Tak sesuai langsung.. saya harap buatla kat kilang marble lama yg mcm kejohanan baru-baru ni. Barula kick & menarik. Paintball adalah sukan lasak. Langkawi Island by Musemono

Hey y'all. Last weekend (it was Christmas holidays), I decided to re-visit Langkawi Island. The last time I went there was 8 years ago, so I had a very vague idea how it was and pretty curious this time around. Langkawi is an island in Kedah state (the same state I was born in), about an hour by airplane from Kuala Lumpur. It's located on the west coast of peninsular Malaysia, quite near to Thailand. Oh it's also accessible via ferries.

I rented a cute lil Malaysian car, called Kancil (mousedeer) for about RM70 a day from the airport counter. A car will help a lot to move my holiday butt around, especially on a large and relatively undeveloped island like this one.

Exploring the Natural Splendor of Langkawi Malaysia

Exploring the Natural Splendor of Langkawi Malaysia
Langkawi is a small island-district located offshore Malaysian mainland. It is one of the most visited destinations in this part of Southeast Asia. Its natural endowments and rich cultural heritage draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to its coastlines every year. It is also easily accessible from the equally popular tourist destinations of Singapore and Thailand.
Langkawi is adored mainly for its exquisite beaches, azure blue waters and powdery white sand shores. Cenang beach is a favorite tourist jaunt where you can easily get lost in the crowd.  It also has the highest concentration of commercial establishments catering to the needs of the throng of visitors for accommodation, food and shopping. More tranquil and quiet alternatives include Tanjung Rhu Beach, Burau Bay and Kok Beach

Slow Start in Day 1 ~ Royal International Regatta

IT sparked a short wave of excitement when the AP flag was finally lowered at 12.15pm.
After almost four hours of delay with flat waters and no wind, a gentle breeze started to blow around noon. When the weather conditions improved, so did the mood of those at the harbour as sailors could not wait to set their sails up for the first race of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2011.

On the next day, we went for island hoping + swim @ the beach. Weather was so cold can DIE!! but we had so much fun ahha. On this island got damn a lots of monkeys! Do you know I almost got killed cos of them? :P Really.

Well, the story goes like this... I came down from the boat and waited for the rest to come down. Junn asked me if I can help him hold the junk foods. I said yes. Later on, there was this huge monkey came towards me, tried to grab the junk food! Everyone was panic but not me lol. I was trying to avoid him by walking a lil bit fast, but the monkey manage to poke a hole on the plastic and half of the stuff in it started to drop one by one! My initial idea was to throw it to the sea so that it wont be able to get it. While I was walking, one of the boat came towards me (I didn't see it coming cos I was facing the opposite side -_-" + the boatman thought I know the boat is coming towards me! Sweat!!). This is the moment I thought SOMETHING gonna happen! I turn back to see why is everyone shouting "go awayy!!!"

Protecting Langkawi’s splendour By CHRISTINA CHIN

COME March, the Langkawi Country Code, a guideline for sustainable eco-tourism for Langkawi, will be available for all local authorities, tourism operators and stakeholders.
Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Langkawi branch chairman Eric R. Sinnaya said the code hoped to prevent natural attractions from being ruined by tourism so that everyone could enjoy long-term benefits.

“Tourism can really improve the locals’ standard of living but we must not kill the goose that lays the golden egg,” he said.
“We can have the greenest is- lands in the world if everyone works together.

“Two decades ago, 95% of the Langkawi islands was green — now we are down to about 60%,” he said.
He said although NGOs could prepare a guideline of best practices, the state and local authorities’ support was needed to endorse and enforce the code, adding that the ecology of Langkawi was very sensitive and needed protection.

He said the Pulau Payar Marine Park was a good example of how tourism had resulted in garbage pollution and coral damage.

The code addresses the conservation of existing tropical rainforests, mangrove forests, coastal eco-systems, bio-diversity and landscapes; garbage management; reduction of pollution and usage of natural resources and adoption of ethical business models by all parties.
The code was among the out-comes of the ‘Conservation of Biodiversity in Langkawi through Sustainable Eco-tourism’ project funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and implemented by the MNS.

Anaklangkawi :-
Its about time  this code of conduct or best practices propose by MNS & LADA is no point if the local authorities will not endorse it. It will be just another piece of paper submitted. Anyhow.. I applause MNS effort to proposed such paper.

I really hope that Ministry of Tourism, Kedah Government & Local Authorities support & make the code of conduct / guidelines proposal as compulsory or make it a law. Enforce it then we'll see changes..

Langkawi Fiddler Crab or Uca

Picture of the day by Farlykhalid. Shows Fiddler Crab or Uca (scientific name). Found in mangroves, salt marches etc2. Easily recognised by their distinctively asymmetric claws.

Fiddler crabs communicate by a sequence of waves and gestures;[2] males have an oversized claw or cheliped; used in clashes of ritualised combat of courtship over a female and signal their intentions between conspecifics. The movement of the smaller claw from ground to mouth during feeding underlines the crabs' common name; it seems that animal plays the larger claw somewhat like a fiddle. - Wikipedia

One thing for sure. Dont ever underestimate the claws. Nicely taken picture & thanks for the permission to share it with fellow Langkawian.. :) More pictures here.

Taking A Break In Langkawi by Sunny Cookie

Was glad we stayed at Pantai Chenang because according to the locals, it is the most happening place at night...something like the night market at Penang's Batu Ferringhi. Had dinner and walked around, CoolTeen managed to buy some interesting T-shirts and hubby bought a nice linen white shirt for Chinese New Year.

The next morning we got up early and visited the Langkawi Cable Car which was about 30 minutes' drive away. We reached there at 9am but there were already people queuing up at the ticket counter, which opens at 10am. I really dislike cable car rides and this one is really scary because of the very steep incline, but the view from the top of the hill made up for it...a cool and very windy place, sometimes the gust of wind is so strong that you feel you might be blown off the viewing platform!

Cocktails at Four Seasons Langkawi by Musemono

I know it sounds weird, but one of Langkawi's fabulous (I can't think of other word!) attractions is the Four Seasons Resort, set on Langkawi's best beach, Tanjung Rhu. I didn't get to stay there (flat broke), but my spirit wasn't broke to explore the side of this out-of-this-world beauty. Call me wannabe, but I soooo wannabe there again, even as I'm writing this! Ok whatever.

Anaklangkawi :-
What i can say is musemono blog are really interesting. It quite detail & great pictures on the places he visits. There's also an article about Kampung Tok Senik Resort. Do look up his blog if you plan to stay at these two places.

Encounter with Langkawi MP: Rubbish Issue

I recently bumped into Dato' Paduka Abu Bakar Taib Member of Parliament of Langkawi while waiting for my flight going back to Kuala Lumpur. I ask Dato' to comment highlighted by tourists with regards to the rubbish & cleanliness issue around the Island in the local newspaper. Refer here.

Below are his response.

"I am concerned about the cleanliness in Langkawi especially around the areas of Pulau Payar, Pantai Chenang, Pantai Tengah, Kilim Geopark, Teluk Yu, Telaga Tujuh, the Kuah town itself and all the Islands in Langkawi".

"Eventhough actions have been taken by the local council, the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) and others, I urge the authorities to STEP UP actions & effort to ensure the cleanliness of Langkawi. I also urge the residents of Langkawi & also tourists which number more than 2.4 million visitors to help this effort".
"I've also spoken in Parliament on the issue of cleanliness, in the previous parliament sessions and requested the relevant Ministeries to ensure the pristine beauty and cleanliness of Langkawi is maintained. Last but not least Langkawi must be "Cantik, Indah & Bersih".

Dato' Paduka Abu Bakar Taib.

AL :-
Both government & local authorities must give good response by comments of public & the Langkawi Member of Parliament with regards to the concern raised. As well, i suggest the hotels once i a while carry out events such as beach cleanup with tourist & fellow guest. Local residents also should not take cleanliness issue lightly. Together we make Langkawi "Cantik, Indah & Bersih" or "Pretty, Beautiful, & clean"

Langkawi Nature Discovery Package by Noweating.com

Two weeks ago I joined a one-day “Langkawi Nature Discovery” package to Langkawi– an island north of Penang. The package was offered by Langkawi Coral– a Langkawi tour agent in Penang. It had been decades since I visited the island. Even though Langkawi is not as well developed as Penang island, it is in fact bigger than Penang, and even Singapore!

According to the tour guide, the reason it is not well developed is due to the distance from mainland. It took one hour to travel from mainland, or 3 hours from Penang island by sea, which is soul-torturing! Things will be different if there is a bridge built between mainland and Langkawi.

I just love how the picture moves in his blog. Nice picture mate.
