He said the top floor would be able to hold more than 50 people, and the view offered would be spectacular, especially at sunset.
The tower would also have a restaurant. Dr Mahathir said the idea of a tower for Langkawi was first discussed more than 20 years ago.
Datuk Abu Hassan Mohamed, executive chairman of Blackrock, the company undertaking the project, said that work to reclaim 28 acres (11.2ha) at the Kuah Beach will begin next month.
Construction will begin in March, and the tower is expected to be completed within 24 months, he said.

At last. After years of talking about the project kick-off. I'm 50-50 about the project. But its of course going to be a great spot for Photographer lovers... Hope the Construction company take into account the surrounding environment & follow the construction guideline. Hope the authority keep good track of all projects in Langkawi..

This construction will be on a reclaimed land. However, that will definitely change the "feng shui" for the island. From how i see it, that tower is blocking the good "feng shui". not a good sign.
What a great way to spend our rakyat's money when those poor nelayans (fishermen) need funds to upgrade their jetties. A sheer waste of $$$. Look at Pekan Rabu! Only a quarter of the ugly purple building is occupied. What more can i say about this tower. It will be a haunted one, for sure.
A landmark for Langkawi. Another joke! Isn't the Dataran Lang not sufficient as a landmark?
Agree with you.
If they really want to kick start the project there're lots of thing to think about. Especially for the future of the nelayan in that areas. Even now it's still uncertain what's going to happen with them since their parking areas become smaller & smaller.
Is the landmark good or bad? I hope Langkawi people need to decide.. Whether it benefit them or not..
I guess by being another landmark .. the people who proposed this should add other stuffs to make it more acceptable by just mere a landmark..
