First Integrated Fish Farming Project In Langkawi Soon

LANGKAWI, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) is paving the way for the development of commercial fish farming and aqua tourism by leasing its land as the first fish processing plant in the island.

Its chief executive officer, Tan Sri Khalid Ramli said Lada and a company specialising in marine fish farming, Aquagrow Corporation Sdn Bhd, had signed two agreements to develop the industry.

"In the first agreement, Lada leases three plots of land in the Ikan Bilis (anchovies) industrial area, Taman Nilam to Aquagrow to develop the first fish processing plant in Langkawi.

"The beach wil also be developed in Taman Nilam for its offshore cage operation near Pulau Langgun," he said at an agreement signing ceremony between Lada and Aquagrow, here Thursday.

He said for the second agreement, Lada would lease 30 units of unoccupied houses in Taman Nilam to Aquagrow as staff quarters for about 120 people.

PNKL Plans To Expand Marketing Of Bilis Crispy

LANGKAWI, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Fishermen's Association (PNKL)plans to expand the marketing of local anchovies-based snack food, "Bilis Crispy Rangup", to the mainland.

Chairman Mahadzir Ibrahim said PNKL has been undertaking the production of even tastier Bilis Crispy Rangup at its building in Penarak here since last July.

"The proposal has been made known to a number of mainland fishermen's association's to assist with the marketing," he told Bernama here today.

He said at present the product is being sold only at shops, supermarkets and tourist areas throughout Langkawi.

Langkawi Shop (Ikan Bilis) & Eat by Azy

Langkawi is known as a duty-free shopping zone, which suggests a really good time, but I can sum up its offer very briefly as: ikan bilis, chocolates, gamat and dish wares. This means that the men sit outside the shops and watch in disbelief as the women scour each aisle with hawk-like precision. The best place to go is Pekan Kuah, specifically at Jalan Pandak Mayah off Persiaran Putera, where there are endless rows of similar shops selling a dizzying display of dish wares and chocolates.

More here..

A/L :- Ikan bilis (dried anchovies) in Langkawi are among the best in Malaysia. Not to be buyers but its the fact. The best gred especially the blue eye one. Not chewy & great to eat with nasi lemak. WOW.. So dont get back without one.. :)
