20 Kapal Layar Sahkan Penyertaan RLIR 2010


LANGKAWI, 25 Nov (Bernama) -- Sebanyak 20 buah kapal layar telah mengesahkan penyertaan dalam kejohanan Regatta Antarabangsa Diraja Langkawi (RLIR) 2010 yang akan berlangsung dari 8 hingga 15 Januari depan. Pengarah Teknikal pertandingan, Ahmad Zailani Bashah berkata antara pasukan-pasukan yang telah mengesahkan penyertaan ialah dari Australia, Singapura, Hong Kong, Belanda, New Zealand dan Malaysia. Katanya pasukan Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) dan Persatuan Pelayaran Malaysia (MYA) bawah 25 tahun akan mewakili Malaysia pada pertandingan itu yang dianjurkan Kelab Pelayaran Diraja Langkawi (RLYC)."Penganjur Regata bagaimanapun mensasarkan menarik penyertaan 50 kapal layar dari seluruh dunia menyertai pertandingan itu tahun depan," katanya kepada Bernama di sini, Rabu.

Beliau berkata promosi dan pendaftaran berterusan telah diadakan dan yang terbaru semasa kejohanan Regatta Antarabangsa Raja Muda Selangor yang berakhir di sini Sabtu lepas. RLIR mempertandingkan acara kelas Racing, Sport boats, kelas Multihull, kelas IRC dan kelas Club, merupakan pembuka tirai kejohanan layar di Langkawi bagi 2010 dan diikuti Regatta Perdana anjuran MYA pada 27 hingga 31 Jan.-- BERNAMA

Langkawi to host Asian sailing meet

PETALING JAYA: Langkawi will play host to the inaugural Asian Sailing Championships from Dec 12-20.

The Kuah Harbour will act as the racing area and National Sailing Centre as the shore venue.
Organised under the authority of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA), t
he Asian meet will feature the Optimist Individual events (boys and girls) and the Optimist Team Racing event.

The event launching was held in Langkawi yesterday and Malaysia Yachting Association deputy president Lukman Abu Bakar said Malaysian sailors would have a fair shot at winning top honours. Tournament secretary Lawrence Yeow confirmed that 140 sailors from 30 countries, including China, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and hosts Malaysia, had confirmed participation when entries closed at the end of October.

Among the top Malaysian sailors taking part are Korat SEA Games gold medallist Mohd Romzi Mohamad and Khairunisa Affendy.

Yatching Competition Brazil ~ Pictures

I received pictures referring to the sailing competition which were held in Brazil last month. Our MP went there to give support to Malaysian Team & as well as to prepare for being a host in next year event (if i'm not mistaken) for South East Asia Competition which will be held in Langkawi. MALAYSIA IS BEST WORLD TEAM - Sailing

Brazil, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's sailing squad emerged as the best team in the IODA's 2009 World Sailing Championship in the Optimist class in Niteroi, Brazil which ended today.

The win is a gift in conjunction with the Merdeka Day on Aug 31, said Mohd Afendy Abdullah, general manager of the Malaysian Yatching Association (MYA). In an e-mail to Bernama here today, Mohd Afendy said with this Malaysia lifts the The Miami Heralds Trophy. He said Malaysia also won the silver medal through the national junior sailor Mohamad Faizal Norizan in the individual category.

Peruvian sailor, Sinelair Jones, took the gold and Argentinian Ignacio Rogala the bronze.
Another national sailor, Mohamad Farhan, took sixth place, Ahmad Latif Khan Ali Sabri Khan the 9th and Ahmad Shukri Abdul Aziz was 26th. He said the success of the three sailors being in the top ten was something to be proud of.

He said this was in line with Malaysia's hosting of the the same championship next year in Pokok Asam, Langkawi. 217 sailors from 45 countries took part.
