Leniency Can Help Avert Delay In Langkawi Development - Mahathir

LANGKAWI, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today expressed the hope for leniency in the government's implementation of the Langkawi Five-Year Tourism Development Master Plan so as to avert any delay in the utilisation of the development allocation.

He said any development project often took a long time for implementation, especially when it came to acquisition of land.

"If there is leniency, we can achieve what we want to do. Acquiring land itself can take up to a year. So, the allocation remains unspent.

"I believe the Kedah government can approve land applications quickly but there are government procedures to follow. This takes time," he told Bernama.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in tabling Budget 2012, announced that the RM420-million Langkawi Five-Year Tourism Development Master Plan would be launched to promote tourist arrivals and domestic tourism.

Among the initiatives are restructuring the Langkawi Development Authority, setting up a park rangers unit and upgrading museums, beaches and small businesses.

AL :-
Agree with Tun. Don't be to haste to finish the 420million for Langkawi. Every project need careful planning & execution. Great & detailed project need time. The takeover of land alone can take a year if everything goes smooth. Just that please dont persue the stupid idea of building the bridge to Langkawi...

Budget 2012 boost to property and construction sectors - Langkawi Comment

REALTY CHECK
By DATUK ABDUL RAHIM RAHMAN

(what he's comment with regards to Langkawi 420millition budget & property & construction sectors)

As one of the NKEAs, the tourism industry will also receive a shot in the arm. For example, RM420mil will be allocated to launch the Langkawi Five Year Tourism Development Master Plan. Among the initiatives to be undertaken are the restructuring of the Langkawi Development Authority, setting up a park rangers unit, upgrading museums, beaches and small businesses as well as providing a more efficient transportation system.

In my view, to create a more supportive environment for the tourism industry, it is of high importance for the Government to also re-look at current restrictions on buying and investing in properties in Langkawi. The island has great potential; however, more needs to be done to attract hotel operators as well as investment in tourist-related activities as the current regulations are considered as “unfriendly” to foreign buyers or investors.

AL :-
Respect his opinion but here are mine.
Langkawi don't need lavish & high attraction in terms of foreign buyers or investors. More hotel international operators just means that less & less beach accessible to the public. Look what happen to Andaman area's, Tanjung Rhu areas, Five Season & several other beaches. If i'm not mistaken the law said the beach belongs to the public. Anyone can use the beach & not consider as trespassing.
So call 'unfriendly' policy make langkawi more attractive in terms of local entity & development. Instate Dato' Should should encourage property investors to team up with locals on development of langkawi. There's a lot of potential & land owner who wish to do business just that lacking in terms of funding & how to..

p/s: Dont want langkawi to be like penang or bali..

Fund allocated to cater Jellyfish Reseach & Problem

I would like to suggest one thing with regards to the fund will be given to Langkawi (RM420Million). I know LADA will set up a ranger division to cater the environment. I do hope apart from that a special interest & task force to be made to monitor presence of Box Jellyfish & jellyfish in Langkawi.

We cannot deny their presence & its effects to people. We dont have the expertise nor the facility to combat this. We only use typical vinegar & drugs to combat its effect. WE need to really look into this. I hope the authority will look into this, setup a team or import expert to look upon this problem.

One task force on how to control.
One task force 'medic' & facility to cater the effected people if they get stung.

Masterplan To Boost Langkawi As International Tourist Destination

ALOR SETAR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Five Year Tourism Development Master Plan will boost the government's efforts in making the island an international standard tourist destination and help increase foreign tourist arrivals in the country.

Langkawi Tourism Association deputy chairman Phisol Ishak said the master plan, when implemented well, could make Langkawi an international tourist destination known for its green attractions.

"Langkawi has the potential of an international green destination," he told Bernama when contacted.

He was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's announcement when tabling the 2012 Budget today, that the Five Year Tourism Development Master Plan for Langkawi would be launched with an allocation of RM420 million.

Among the initiatives taken were to restructure the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada), the establishment of a forest ranger team, upgrade of the museum, beach and commercial areas and a more efficient public transportation system.

Meanwhile, Lada general manager Datuk Azman Umar concurred with Phisol that the five-year plan for the island would boost its natural attractions.

He said the allocation was based on a tourism blue print prepared by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the finance ministry and it would act as a foundation to attract more investors to the island.

"This is a huge amount of allocation spreading in a five-year plan. We believe it will lure more investors to the island," he said when contacted today.

AL :-
To LADA.. Yes its a huge spending but it has to be use wisely & please concentrate on eco-tourism concept & do not to concentrate on others..
