Eurofighter Typhoon Visits LIMA for First Time

16:55 GMT, November 26, 2011 The Eurofighter Typhoon will be flying across the skies of Langkawi for the first time as a UK Royal Air Force aircraft participates in one of the most important global defence and security shows, LIMA 2011, which takes place in Langkawi, Malaysia, from 6-10 December.

Just a few days after particpating at the Dubai Air Show and with aircraft still in Malaysia following Exercise BERSAMA LIMA, the Typhoon will excite the crowds with displays demonstrating its incredible agility and speed.

Four RAF Typhoon aircraft from 6 Squadron flew from their base in Scotland to the Royal Malaysian Air Force airbase in Butterworth, Malaysia to take part in Exercise BERSAMA LIMA marking the 40th Anniversary of the Five Powers Defence Arrangement (FPDA), and whilst in the region wanted to reflect the importance of the air force to air force relationship by attending this prestigious exhibition.

Eurofighter Typhoon is the world’s most advanced multi-role combat aircraft. It meets current and future fast combat air needs and provides best-in-class combat effectiveness and operational flexibility. The Typhoon is capable of being deployed in the full spectrum of air operations from air policing and peace support, through to high intensity conflict. Typhoon aircraft have recently been deployed on operations and have performed exceptionally well, demonstrating outstanding levels of availability and maintainability.

Navy sends 2 vessels to int'l maritime exhibition

MANILA, Philippines - The Navy dispatched two of its vessels to Malaysia yesterday to showcase its capabilities in an international maritime and aerospace exhibition that will be held in the island resort of Langkawi from Dec. 6 to 10.
Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Omar Tonsay said the Navy sent its Jacinto Class patrol vessel, BRP Emilio Jacinto (PS-35), and logistic support ship, BRP Dagupan City (LC-550) with 262 sailors.
“The activity is foreseen as a way of building stronger ties between the participating countries in terms of maritime defense and international diplomatic engagements,” Tonsay said.
Navy Capt. Virme Torralba will head the Philippine contingent to the exhibition.
The Philippine Navy is still classified as a brown navy, while the naval forces of developed countries are classified as blue navy. It has, however, been actively joining naval exercises in the region to enhance its capabilities.

Brown navies are only capable of launching territorial defense and conducting maritime patrols.
Blue navies, on the other hand, like those of the United States and China, can deploy its warships to international waters for longer naval engagements.
The exhibition, dubbed as “Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA),” also serves as a venue for manufacturers of maritime and aerospace technologies to promote their new products to senior government officials, both civil and military, as well as to industry leaders in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since 1991, dozens of leading maritime and aerospace manufacturers have been participating in the annual sea and air exhibition hosted by the Malaysian government.
Aside from showcasing the latest technological advancements, this year’s exhibition will also include cultural exchanges and training opportunities for all participants.
