From 11.11.11, the cable car ride to the peak of Mount Machinchang, Langkawi will be even more special with today’s opening of Skypos, a new tourism initiative to boost the key economic industry of the tax-haven island.
A collaboration effort of Pos Malaysia and Panorama Langkawi - a subsidiary of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) and operator of the Langkawi cable car – Skypos provides a special service for visitors to share their 'I was here' moment with their loved ones back home by posting a postcard, letter or greeting card via a specially placed Pos Malaysia post box at the Top Station, atop Mount Machinchang.
With the Langkawi cable car service having named recently as one of the World’s Greatest Attractions by Geobeats and winning several awards for its astounding engineering and breathtaking views, Panorama Langkawi provides memorable moments second to none.
“We believe that this initiative also will help in creating a world class attraction in Panorama Langkawi” as said by Mr. Ebi Azly Abdullah, the Chief Operating Officer, Panorama Langkawi.
Located 708 metres above sea level and the first of its kind in Malaysia, the Skypos post was officially launched by Encik Bahaman Kamaruzzaman, who is Pos Malaysia’s Chief Operating Officer of Pos Mel, En Mohd Hussin Ali, the Northern Director of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Ebi.

Panorama Langkawi in rebranding exercise

LANGKAWI: A geo-tourism product, which will enhance technology and educational elements, along with improved jungle-trekking activities are among several sub-brands which will be unveiled by Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd as part of its brand restructuring exercise.

The company, a wholly-owned unit of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, currently operates the Langkawi cable car system.

As part of its rebranding exercise, it also unveiled yesterday its new tagline, "Welcome to Happiness".

"Langkawi Cable Car has been the island's flagship brand for a decade, but the time has now come for Panorama Langkawi to be brought to the forefront of public attention as our main brand," the company's chief operating officer Ebi Azly Abdullah told reporters during a media gathering here .

He said Panorama Langkawi is now in talks with a telecommunications provider and local university to set up a collaborative arrangement for the project.
"By partnering these two parties, we will be able to develop the content and facilities required for this new product, which we are touting as Malaysia's first," Ebi Azly said without elaborating.

Ebi Azly said with the brand restructuring of the company's assets, which include the cable car and a 700-metre-high curved bridge, Langkawi Cable Car will be better positioned to host its present and future products.

"By rebranding ourselves as Panorama Langkawi," he noted, "present and future world-class products can be parked comfortably as sub-brands.

"We are now at the threshold of change and this rebranding exercise will also see the inception of a completely new brand identity, which in the months to come, will transform our venue into a more tourist-friendly destination."

AL :-
Interesting to hear Panorama planned to extend their business for jungle trekking.
I suggest they should make a trek from the lower part of the cable car to the upper part. But make sure that it will not harm the virgin rainforest.

ALOR SETAR, March 12 (Bernama) -- Visitors to Langkawi during the ongoing school holidays can experience Malaysian culture on show nightly at Langkawi Cable Car.

The special cultural shows began yesterday and would go on until March 19, said Ebi Azly Abdullah, chief operating officer of Panorama Langkawi, the operator of Langkawi Cable Car wholly owned by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd.

Since the start of the night cable car service during weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and public holidays, the response has been very encouraging, he said.

"We will continue to aggressively promote Langkawi Cable Car through our normal channels as well as through the social media," Ebi Azly said.

The cable car ride takes visitors up to 708 metres above sea level, with the journey covering a distance of 2.2km linking the station at the foot of Mt Machinchang to the station at the top of the mountain.

Panorama Cable Car Langkawi to widen revenue sources

LANGKAWI cable car operator Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (PLSB) is targeting a 14 per cent revenue increase this year from the RM13.2 million it chalked in 2010.

The company's chief operating officer Ebi Azly Abdullah said while the bulk of the revenue is from the cable car fares, the company, owned by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, will look at non-fare revenue sources to boost earnings.

AL :-
Hopefully the strategy to widen revenue does not means increasing rental of current shops rates & fares for the cable car.

Kereta kabel Langkawi: Mana budi bahasa? - Utusan

Taking A Break In Langkawi by Sunny Cookie

Was glad we stayed at Pantai Chenang because according to the locals, it is the most happening place at night...something like the night market at Penang's Batu Ferringhi. Had dinner and walked around, CoolTeen managed to buy some interesting T-shirts and hubby bought a nice linen white shirt for Chinese New Year.

The next morning we got up early and visited the Langkawi Cable Car which was about 30 minutes' drive away. We reached there at 9am but there were already people queuing up at the ticket counter, which opens at 10am. I really dislike cable car rides and this one is really scary because of the very steep incline, but the view from the top of the hill made up for it...a cool and very windy place, sometimes the gust of wind is so strong that you feel you might be blown off the viewing platform!
