KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will take delivery of eight Aermacchi MB-339CM jet fighter trainers at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima) 2009 on Dec 2. Costing 80 million Euro (RM408 million), the trainers were ordered by the RMAF from Alenia Aermacchi S.P.A, Italy in 2006, said RMAF chief Gen Datuk Seri Rodzali Daud.
The presentation ceremony will be witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Rodzali said the RMAF would use the Alenia Aermacchi MB-339CM as the lead-in fighter trainer to prepare Malaysian pilots for air combat by capitalising its excellent characteristics as it offers a complete and effective training.The Alenia Aermacchi MB-339CM is an advanced trainer to prepare RMAF fighter pilots to fly new generation fighter aircraft equipped with an advanced avionic system. The five-day exhibition from Dec 1 where more that 150 assets would be displayed.
"Two air shows will be held daily - from 10am to 11.30am and from 2.30pm to 4pm. The public will also be able to see RMAF pilots display their capabilities," he added.He said 16 RMAF aircraft, including MiG-29N, Sukhoi 30 MKM and the latest acquisition, MB-339CM, would be at the disposal at the exhibition. -- BERNAMA
